Road trips inevitably mean fast food and for my family no road trip is complete without a stop for Blizzards at Dairy Queen. So with our bellies full and hands still sticky, we set out for Portland
Portland is full of beautiful hotels but we are always in search of character so for our one night, we opted for a hotel of tiny houses, The Tiny Digs Hotel.
Each room (house) has its own personality and theme. At this point in the trip I figured some zen might be nice so we opted for Bamboo.
Bamboo had a couch that converted to a bed giving us enough space for three. Loving the ceramic mugs and tea pot for the morning!
The common area had games, hammocks and a fireplace but though they were fully booked by the time we had the area to ourselves
Walking to meet up with cousins made so much easier with pockets! The Meredith Pocketed belt in black denim was the easy going casual look I needed for my long skirt. In my front pockets: cash, credit cards, ID, mask, lip gloss, floss stick. In my back pockets: phone, hand sanitizer, tissue, gum, car keys.
Portland was fun and quick and we moved onto Eugene. In keeping with our eclectic hotel through line, we tried out the fitness themed EVEN Hotel. For someone who has never used a hotel gym (or any gym for that matter) this might seem an odd choice. But the kids wanted a pool and I knew after all the driving, I would need the stretch.
Part of what made this hotel fun was the quirky sayings on the walls and in the elevator.
Normally I’d never agree to an indoor pool but this one felt clean and contained and even allowed me some time to get in a Matthew Reyes yoga class with the mat and hardwood floor space in my room.
Lovely walk along the Willamette River to McMenamin's Brewry and Pub. It may be a chain but it's river front location and friendly staff make it feel like one of a kind.
When you visit friends you haven’t seen in a while, it’s best to just go with the flow and so when the opportunity to see one of Eugene’s best high school baseball players comes up we said YES!! This and the sunset were the perfect end to a fun day.
The next day we caravanned with our friends to Crater Lake. It’s the deepest lake in the US and a stunning sight as you crest the ridge.
And as always, I had everything I needed without carrying a thing. My Meredith denim pocket belt in black made the easy transition from city long skirt to hike in shorts in the parking lot.
It was so incredible to see old friends and in this painted setting the experience was unforgettable.
